Voluntary liquidation for environmental charity

Date Added: 10/05/2013

Jobs are being lost as a result of the news an environmental charity in the Midlands is going into voluntary liquidation this week.

Groundwork Leicester and Leicestershire is being wound down and at least 26 jobs are being lost immediately at the charity.

According to a report by Third Sector, news emerged last Friday (May 3rd) that the charity - which provided a range of services including training about recycling - is closing down.

The accountancy firm BDO, which is handling the liquidation process, told the news provider that five members of staff are going to continue to work with the charity on a short-term basis to see if a buyer can be found to come in and provide the organisation with a secure future. However, it is expected that these five employees are going to lose their jobs at the end of the process too.

A spokeswoman for BDO said: "Groundwork Leicester and Leicestershire, a local environmental organisation, ceased to trade on May 3rd 2013. Creditors are being advised of the circumstances and a meeting of the creditors is being arranged for later this month."

Accounts submitted to the regulator by Groundwork Leicester and Leicestershire show that it had an income of £1.24 million and outgoings totalling £1.25 million in 2011/12. The organisation was registered with the Charity Commission in 1990.

Last month, it was revealed that an Italian restaurant in the south of England has gone into liquidation and jobs have been lost as a result.

Pietro and Teresa Tallo bought the lease to the Bottelino restaurant in Nailsea in November last year and reopened the venue as Europa, but the venture only lasted for a few months before it was closed down.

According to a report by Nailsea People, 12 members of staff were informed they are being made redundant due to the decision to take the firm into voluntary liquidation.
