Santander opens new business lending centre

Date Added: 20/03/2013

Santander has announced it is to open a new business lending centre at MediaCityUK in Salford.

The bank revealed four corporate and commercial relationship bankers will be based at the new Salford Quays Business Centre and a range of business banking services will be available at the site.

Asset finance, trade finance, invoice discounting, treasury and merchant acquiring are all offered at the location, which is for corporate and commercial customers with a turnover above £250,000.

Mike Rose, Santander's regional director for the north-west, has been placed in charge of the business banking centre and he will be joined by Dave Parr, Ritchie Laughton, Graham Yates and relationship manager Andrea Yule.

Mr Rose told the Manchester Evening News the bank is "delighted" to be able to provide extra dedicated support to local businesses in Greater Manchester.

"This new centre is the first of its kind in MediaCityUK and being located in the Greenhouse means we are ideally placed to support the region's high proportion of successful and fast growth [small to medium-sized enterprises]," he said.

Mr Rose added Santander is dedicated to improving levels of business lending and the opening of the new centre should help with this goal.

"We already have some great business customers in the area and are thrilled that we will now be able to increase the time we spend with both existing and new customers," he said.

Business lending is sure to be among the items on the agenda as chancellor George Osborne delivers his latest Budget speech to parliament later today (March 20th).

Bodies such as the Forum of Private Business have urged Mr Osborne to take action to improve the flow of credit to small firms to help them grow and get the economy moving.

Head of policy for the organisation Alex Jackman said changes need to be made to the Funding for Lending Scheme as it is not currently working.
