Restaurant into liquidation after 23 years

Date Added: 06/09/2011

A winding up order has led to a restaurant closing down after 23 years of service.

Thrales, which is based in the centre of Lichfield, had been up for sale for close to £500,000 but a buyer could not be found in time to save the business.

According to a report by Lichfield Live, chef Simon Smith stated that the trend for cheap pub grub meant Thrales was no longer able to attract enough customers to keep going.

"We could not compete with the £5 per head market - and the parking charges also lost us a lot of business," he told the news provider.

It was added that the liquidation of the company comes just a few months after the closure of another popular local eatery, The English House.

The Bear, a historic pub, bar and restaurant located in the Derbyshire Dales, entered administration earlier in the summer, reports Insider Media.
