Liquidation for Carlisle nightclub

Date Added: 19/02/2013

A nightclub in Carlisle has been forced to go into liquidation as a result of its debts.

Club Rock in Englishgate Plaza, off Botchergate in the city, has been emptied and had its doors closed because of growing financial issues.

According to a report by the Times and Star, the insolvency practitioner firm that is handling the liquidation of the company has already held meetings to determine the future of the club.

Khal Moulem, the city-based agent for the landlord which owns the Club Rock building, said: "I understand a meeting was held and they went in and took the stock out. Club Rock is closed for the time being."

Owner of Club Rock Dan Russell opened the venue in 2010, but stated it has fallen into debt in recent months, while the Outrageous club in Lowther Arcade is also struggling.

Speaking to the news provider previously, he explained his other businesses - which include a martial arts school and property rental service - will not be affected by the problems he is facing at the two clubs.

But Mr Russell did state he was not sure whether or not he would be able to keep Club Rock open, such is the amount of money the venue is losing.

"I don't believe that Outrageous will close. I believe it will continue under new management," he said, blaming the level of rent demanded by the Club Rock building's London-based landlord.

Dan Russell and Atlas Developments held a creditors meeting at the Hallmark Hotel last week, while a separate gathering has taken place for those owed money by Outrageous.

Sussex Inns, which operated the Vestry and the Fountain, in South Street in Chichester, as well as the Wheatsheaf in Midhurst, recently confirmed it has gone into liquidation.

According to a report by the Chichester Observer, jobs have been saved at the Fountain and the Vestry as another firm has come in and taken over the running of the pubs.
