Some business liquidation advice customers were prevented from declaring themselves bankrupt by measures carried out by the Labour government when it was running the country.

According to the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), many Labour MPs now disagree with small business leaders how best to support companies as they attempt to recover from the recession.

A poll conducted for the organisation found that 84 per cent of them do not believe freezing employment regulations would help companies seeking business liquidation advice to be able to take on new staff.

Director of policy and external affairs at the BCC Adam Marshall said: "The policies adopted by the Labour government … helped prevent many small and medium-sized businesses from going to the wall."

But he pointed out that there is now a gap opening up between Labour MPs and bosses of business liquidation advice customers regarding the best way to cut the budget deficit.

A recent BCC poll found Liberal Democrat MPs and Conservative MPs do not agree on the most effective method of supporting business growth.
