Firms 'must integrate social media strategy'

Date Added: 01/07/2011

Social media strategies must be integrated by small firms looking to avoid the prospect of a winding up order in the future.

Tim Gibbon, director at communications consultancy Elemental, stated that a knee-jerk reaction to the issue of what to do regarding social media policy is to set up a new department.

But he explained that these areas tend to be inclusive and not brought in to the organisation fully.

"Businesses need to incorporate the approach of using these platforms into an overall media and/or marketing strategy where it is seamless into business operations," said Mr Gibbon.

He added brands, media owners and technology providers need to switch the way they think about social media for strategies to be more successful.

This comes shortly after the publication of new research by Regus, which found that 42 per cent of small to medium-sized enterprises claim they are using social media in order to attract new clients.
