Campaign launched to save liquidated newspaper

Date Added: 08/09/2011

A newspaper that was served with a winding up order and went into liquidation may be saved as a result of a new campaign that has been launched.

The Irish Post closed down last month, but a public meeting was held last night (September 7th) to see if anything could be done to rescue it.

According to a report by the Guardian, some of the ten members of staff to have lost their jobs due to the liquidation of the company were set to speak at the event.

Famous faces such as Frank Dobson, Peter Bottomley, Stephen Pound, Mike Hancock and Jack Dromey have already given their names to the campaign to save the Irish Post.

Before its closure, the Irish Post was the most popular newspaper aimed at Irish readers based in the UK market - but falling circulation and financial problems meant it was struggling to stay afloat in the testing current conditions.
