Business debt help firms 'key' to Single Market

Date Added: 01/03/2011

The formation of a new European Single Market could depend on the ability of business debt help customers to get involved.

This is according to the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), which stated that organisations are set to play a key role in whether or not the scheme turns out to be a success.

Commenting on the Single Market Act, Kieran O'Keeffe, head of EU representation at the BCC, explained that Europe does not have time for this legislation to drag out.

"We need to give private sector growth a major shot in the arm and the Single Market is the only card that Europe's political leaders have to play," he said.

Mr O'Keeffe added that the European Commission needs to demonstrate to firms taking business debt help in the UK that they will be able to trade all over the EU "with ease" as a result of the Single Market.

Last month, the BCC stated that interest rates need to remain low in order to support the economic recovery.
