Business debt advice customer goes into liquidation

Date Added: 29/12/2010

A pair of pubs in Scotland are looking for buyers after their owner went into liquidation despite taking business debt advice.

Reports have suggested that Aberdeen-based Aberbrothock Bar Company could owe as much as £154,000 to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), with The Central in Brothock Bridge and The Newgate in West Newgate the two establishments seeking new owners.

But operator of the Aberbrothock Bar Company Jim Dear claimed that figure is an estimate and said it was also "misleading".

Speaking to the Arbroath Herald, he said: "HMRC has based its figures on estimates and part of that figure includes £20,000 corporation tax, which both parties agreed is not owed."

Mr Dear added that another £40,000 of the business debt advice customer's shortfall is money owed to himself he will not be aiming to recover.

Ian Potter, operations director at the Association of Residential Letting Agents, recently claimed firms in the industry may need to take business debt advice in 2011.
