Bridal store chain faces liquidation

Date Added: 01/11/2012

A bridal store chain in the north-west of England is threatened with liquidation and is expected to announce a decision regarding its future over the course of the next few days.

Directors at The Bridal Gallery Group are due to meet in the next week and could elect for the firm to go into liquidation, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The company, which operates bridal stores all over the north-west of the country, closed down the branches a week ago with the loss of 28 jobs.

David Moore of Begbies Traynor has recommended that the organisation is placed into creditors' voluntary liquidation and this is one of the options being considered by the directors.

Mr Moore said: "For the past six years the company has failed to produce a profit and has only remained with the financial support of the directors."

He added that although the firm has recently experienced a brief upturn in trade, this was superseded by a quiet period and the directors are not expecting a solid performance in 2013.

The company's website has been updated throughout the week and it states as many as 70 dresses have been delivered to brides whose weddings are "imminent".

But some brides may be facing having to find somewhere else to purchase a new wedding dress at short notice because of the financial problems of The Bridal Gallery Group.

Its Liverpool store was among those to be closed down, with nobody answering the phones at the location, while outlets at Chester, Southport, Tarleton and Preston are also shut.

Eric Stables from The Bridal Gallery explained all employees have been contacted by the company to be told that they are going to be paid in full.

Earlier in the month, Lila Thomas and David Acland of Begbies Traynor were appointed as joint administrators of United Carpets (Northern).
