Small businesses 'see sales training as crucial to growth'

Marketing and sales training initiatives are seen by many managers of smaller companies as crucial to their organisation's success, new research has shown.

According to a study conducted by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), around half of all firms believe this to be a vital factor behind their ability to expand in the aftermath of the global economic downturn.

The Voice of Small Business survey - which involved questioning 1,700 small companies - revealed that 46 per cent felt this to be the case, while 34 per cent indicated that similar training for their employees is also important in this regard.

Furthermore, 20 per cent stated that development of their communication skills - through mediums such as social media - would aid their growth in the 21st century business environment.

Recently, the FSB found that 90 per cent of all smaller firms are eager to improve their eco-friendliness by recycling more.
