Government urged to help firms go green

Date Added: 01/06/2011

The coalition government has been urged to provide more help and support for organisations that want to operate in a more eco-friendly way.

A spokeswoman for Summit Systems stated that it is "sad" the government appears set to cut core grant funding for the Energy Saving Trust and Carbon Trust.

She explained that help for small businesses needs to be channelled through local councils, as these have the ability to get funding through to those that need it.

The spokeswoman added that the government's targets for carbon emissions will not be enough to encourage firms to be more sustainable, "not if it doesn't actively get involved and try and help other companies to do that".

Her comments come shortly after the Department for Energy and Climate Change revealed that a new Office for National Energy Efficiency is to be established.

It is being set up as part of the department's wider energy efficiency strategy.
