Government to launch business mentoring scheme

Date Added: 10/05/2011

The coalition government has announced it is launching a new business mentoring scheme in a bid to support tens of thousands of companies.

Business minister Mark Prisk stated that the drive is part of the state's plan to support the growth of the private sector, as public sector organisations are forced to cut jobs to make savings.

He told the Yorkshire Post the scheme already has the backing of a number of large mentoring groups "who are offering what we think is up to 40,000 potential business mentors and these are real business people, currently in business, willing to give up their time".

A spokesman for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills added that some of these will come from voluntary mentoring organisation Horsesmouth.co.uk, with others from an existing programme being run by the British Bankers' Association.

This comes shortly after research conducted by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development revealed that a third of firms believe strike action is likely over the coming months.
