Fuel duty rise 'could cause problems for business liquidation advice customers'

Date Added: 03/02/2011

Firms such as those taking business liquidation advice could find that their finances are even more stretched in the coming months as a result of a planned rise in fuel duty.

According to the Federation of Small Businesses, the hike in fuel duty at the start of the year will cost almost 90 per cent of companies as much as £2,000 over the course of the next six months.

With another increase set for April, this means that organisations such as those taking business liquidation advice are going to be hampered, stated the national chairman of the body John Walker.

He said: "The government promised in opposition that it would put a fuel duty stabiliser in place and it is clear that without such a measure, the country's five million small businesses will be put on a knife-edge."

The Road Haulage Association and the Freight Transport Association are among the bodies to have lent their support to the Fair Fuel UK campaign, which was founded by Peter Carroll and aims to force MPs to bring in a fuel price stabiliser.
