Design consultancy confirms liquidation

Date Added: 11/09/2013

A Bridgwater design consultancy has confirmed it has gone into liquidation as a result of its ongoing financial issues.

Tim Ball of Mazars in Bristol has been announced as the liquidator of APT Design, which was founded around 30 years ago.

The firm traded as an architectural design consultancy, according to a report by Insider Media, working mainly for property developers and house builders.

At the top of the company's success, it employed 12 members of staff, but its workforce has been slimmed down in the last few years as the business came to terms with the recession and its after-effects.

Mr Ball said: "It is sad to see another long established Somerset business in the construction sector fall victim to ever increasing competition during this ongoing difficult trading period that we continue to experience."

The construction sector has been hit by the recession and the slow economic recovery more than most industries and this has had a knock-on effect on consultancies involved in construction work such as APT Design.

When the firm announced that it had ceased trading last month, it was also revealed that the four remaining members of staff have all been told they are being made redundant.

Turnover has been dropping at the organisation in the last few years as it saw its margins squeezed as a result of the recession. Many firms in various different sectors are still at risk of going under and might need to take company debt advice if they are to be able to survive.

Aberdeen-based Deer Digital recently confirmed it is closing down as a result of cash flow management problems, but its management claimed in a blog post on the firm's site that it is not going into administration or liquidation.

A member of staff, in a separate blog post posted on their own website, explained the workforce had not been given any warning ahead of the closure of the digital agency.
