Business liquidation to be raised in parliament

Date Added: 10/02/2012

Business liquidations could be set to be debated in the Scottish parliament after an MSP pledged to raise the issue to ministers in the coming days.

Angus North MSP Nigel Don is planning to use the recent failure of Forfar employer Ross & Bonnyman - which designed and manufactured lifting products - to demonstrate his point, according to a report by the Kirriemuir Herald.

Mr Don explained the loss of the jobs is bad for the whole local community, adding: "I hope that the administrators will explore every opportunity to preserve parts of the business and retain as many jobs as possible locally."

He also noted the matter is going to be raised with ministers to see if there is anything that can be done to help those who lose their jobs as a result of the firm's closure.

Some 1,526 businesses fell into administration, liquidation or receivership last year in Scotland, which is on average more than four every day, reported the Scotsman.
