Business insolvency advice customer numbers down in Scotland

Date Added: 21/10/2010

Newly-released figures from the Accountant in Bankruptcy service show that the number of companies needing to take business insolvency advice in Scotland has fallen.

According to the latest official Scottish figures, there were 247 notices of Scottish registered companies becoming insolvent or entering receivership during the third quarter of the year.

This represents a fall of almost a third compared to the statistics from April to June 2010.

Minister for community safety Fergus Ewing stated that the government in Scotland is committed to the financial health of people north of the border.

"We must recognise in these results that not all increases in debt relief activity are a bad sign for our economy," he told business insolvency advice customers.

The British Chambers of Commerce recently stated that banks need to increase lending to firms.

It was commenting on the release of the Business Finance Taskforce study, which called for banks to do more to support companies such as those in need of business insolvency advice.
