Building firm goes into liquidation

Date Added: 09/02/2012

A family building firm has gone out of business, with 38 members of staff told their jobs have been lost as a result of the liquidation of the business.

Watfords of Wombwell - which has a history dating back to before the second world war - took voluntary liquidation due to the state of its financial position.

According to a report by the Goole Courier, a meeting of its creditors is set to be held on February 21st and this is where the company will officially be wound up.

Most of the workforce had been let go at the end of last month, while a few key employees were retained for a short period in order to help with outstanding jobs to ensure customers were not let down.

Watfords of Wombell employed bricklayers, joiners, roofers, plumbers and decorators on its payroll, while Sheffield-based chartered accountants Hart Shaw LLP has been confirmed as being put in charge of the liquidation of the organisation.
