150 redundancies as Northampton firm enters administration

Date Added: 27/02/2013

Some 150 members of staff at Northampton company Deane & Amos have been told they are being made redundant as the firm has gone into administration.

The fit-out and refurbishment group specialised in areas such as shopfitting, aluminium windows and doors, electrical installations and metal fabrication.

However, its financial difficulties in recent months have become too great for the company to be able to carry on and it has now entered administration.

Joint administrator Gary Pettit added: "It is always sad to see long-established businesses like Deane & Amos fall into difficulties, but there are some encouraging signs that at least some of the ex-employees will be offered their jobs back by any prospective new owners."

There is not yet any indication of how many jobs might be able to be saved at Deane & Amos if a buyer can be found for the firm.

Main fit-out business DA Withey is among the parts of the businesses that has seen some interest from other firms, along with doors and window specialist Deane & Amos Aluminium Systems and trading firm Streets Metalwork.

D&A Lovell and the Deane & Amos Group have both ceased trading for the time being and if no buyer can be found within the next few weeks, it is likely the company will go into liquidation.

Several big name high street brands had work done by Deane & Amos in the last few years, but the number of projects it has been handling has been drying up in recent months.

Retail, construction, education, commercial and hotel and leisure were among the sectors in which the firm has done work in the past.

Solid recovered fuel producer Asset & Land Environmental recently confirmed it has elected to go into voluntary liquidation, with the Stockport-based business unable to fulfil its obligations, it was reported by Let's Recycle.
